Day 233

"so Ruth gleaned in the field until evening. Then she threshed the barley she had gathered, and it amounted to about an ephah. She carried it back to town, and her mother-in-law saw how much she had gathered. Ruth also brought out and gave her what she had left over after she had eaten enough." Ruth 2:17-18

What? Ruth ate first? Without giving it to Naomi? I never noticed that before...I guess it is good to read a line at a time sometimes.

Look a few lines back - she ate earlier and had some left over - she wasn't being selfish

Ruth ate first because she needed to be as fat and pretty as possible. In those days all a woman had to do to be pretty was be overweight. Obesity was considered healthy though it actually wasn't. Often you hear of women in the Bible dying long before their husbands. Sarah was beautiful but died first. Rachel was beautiful and died first. Ruth probably wasn't too fat being poor but any little bit probably helped.
